Dr. Wayne E Sinning, 84, of Kent, OH, died October 22, 2015.
Wayne was born March 30, 1931 in Worthing South Dakota to Thomas and Edith Sinning. He loved sharing his memories of growing up on the farm, and working as a hospital corpsman in the United States Navy. In 1966, after receiving his Doctorate from the University of Oregon, he accepted his first job as an Associate Professor at Springfield College, where he established the New England Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine. In 1975, he became the Buxton Professor of Physical Education. In 1976, he and his wife Jane brought their family to Kent State University where he was hired in as a Full Professor. During his academic career he was published in the journal of "Medicine and Science in Sports" and "Physiology of Muscular Activity." He retired from Kent State in 2001, Professor Emeritus. He was a member of the Blue and Gold club and enjoyed returning to campus to attend football and basketball games.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane (Mumford) Sinning, children, Thomas (Kathryn) Sinning, Martha (Dan) Ahearn, Nancy Sinning, and Edie Sinning; grandsons, Ryan (Vanessa), Brendan and Timothy Ahearn, Brett, Connor and Jason Sinning; and great grandchildren, Mercia and Everest Ahearn. He was preceded in death by his sister, Doris (Sylvan) Fodness. He will be missed by his loyal dog, Woody.
