Wendel Gieger, 87, of Kent, died Thursday, April 14, 2016 at his home.
He was born April 15, 1928 in Sathmar, Hungary, to Wendel and Maria (Schimpf) Gieger. Wendel came to the United States in 1951 and settled in Kent in 1952. He was a member of St. Patrick Church since 1952. He was a Golden Ring member of the German Family Society in Brimfield and a past member of the Knights of Columbus. Wendel worked as a tool maker and part owner of Kent Mold and Mfg. for 37 years retiring in 1989
Wendel is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anna Gieger; sister-in-law, Maria Majer; and niece, Marianne Majer. He is survived by his sons, Wendell (Kathy) Gieger and Frank (Christine) Gieger; grandchildren, Jason Gieger, Matthew (Jennifer) Gieger, Jennifer (Parker) Noonan and David Gieger; step grandchildren, Tanya (Chris) Koch and Tara (Eric) Severic; seven great grandchildren; nieces, Heidi (Steven) Huy. Erika (Jeff) Cwan; nephew, Robert Majer; brother-in-law, John Majer; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Keinrad
Calling hours will be held 4-6 PM Sunday, April 24 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Funeral mass will be held 1:30 PM Monday, April 25 at St. Patrick Church. Burial will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Church Memorial Fund, 313 N. DePeyster Street, Kent, OH 44240.
