William J. Cowling, 87, of Stow, died Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Akron City Hospital Medical Center.
He was born July 6, 1927 in Cleveland, to Robert Thomas and Marguret (Imars) Cowling. William was a veteran of the Army during World War II. He was a custodian for the Orange and Solon schools for 35 years. William was a member of St. Joan of Arc in Streetsboro. William was a founding member of the Streetsboro VFW. William is a member of the Orange High School Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his children, William (Patricia) Cowling Jr. of Stow, Thomas Cowling of Medina, Mindy (David) Rashley of Howard and John (Barbara) Cowling of Streetsboro; grandchildren, Heathyr (David) Ullmo of Beachwood, David (Anna) Rashley Jr. of Fredericktown, Gretl (Jason) Whiteleather of Minerva, John Cowling of Streetsboro,; grandson, Ted Cowling of Clifton, NJ; grandson, Grady Cowling of Stow, Shawn (Paula) Cowling of Haughton, LA and Sherri (Kevin) Shinsky of Medina; fourteen great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Natalie Cowling of Kent. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Beryl Jean "Dolly" Cowling; sister, Gertrude Cowling; brother, Robert Cowling; and daughter-in-law, Mary Cowling.
Calling hours will be held 6-9 PM Sunday, November 16th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, OH. Funeral mass will be held 10:00 AM Monday, November 17th at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with Fr. Pat Ferraro officiating. Burial will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery.
