William E. Griffith, 78, of Kent, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at UH Portage Medical Center. He was born in Akron on May 29, 1946 to the late Charles E. and Mazie Griffith. Bill was a 1964 graduate of Kent Roosevelt High School and went on to attend Kent State University. He was drafted into the United States Army, where he spent a year in Ft. Knox, KY as a drill instructor and cook and spent a year in Germany as a military police officer.
Bill was employed as the director of food service and auxiliary operations at Kent State for 34 years, retiring in 1999. Always wanting to keep busy, following retirement, he was employed part-time at the Akron City Club and Twin Lakes Country Club. Bill attended United Methodist Church of Kent and was a member of Kiwanis, United Way and the Kent and Streetsboro Chamber of Commerce. He was a fan of the Cleveland sports teams, loved playing golf and softball and enjoyed collecting baseball cards.
Bill leaves his loving wife Jane Griffith; children, Jennifer Griffith (Christian Kawalek) of Hawaii, Charles Giffith (Liz) of Twinsburg and Jason Griffith (Julia) of Maryland; granddaughters, Addison, Reagan, Amelia and Lila; special cousins, John Griffith of Virginia, Richard Horsfield of Hartville and Tom Griffith of Kent; brothers-in-law, John Gambaccini (Carol), Jerry Gambaccini (Ann) and Douglas Hiestand (Jean-Deceased); and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank UH Cleveland CTICU, UH Portage Emergency ICU and Palliative Care, Hospice of the Western Reserve and Tamarack Ridge Skilled Nursing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made, in his name, to the Freedom House, 1213 Anita Dr. Kent, OH 44240.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at 1:30PM at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home, 628 W. Main St. Kent, OH 44240. Inurnment will follow at Standing Rock Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:00PM-1:30PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
