William E. Schlag, 85, of Kent, died Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Akron City Hospital Medical Center.
He was born February 3, 1928 in Cleveland, to Edmond Edwin and Mildred (Placak) Schlag. William graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Engineering and was an ardent fan of the Buckeyes and the Cleveland Indians. He was a veteran of the Army during World War II. William retired from BF Goodrich as an Industrial Engineer after 30 years, then worked in property management in Portage County. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and belonged to the Goodyear Hunt and Fish Club. Longtime hobbies included stamp and coin collecting and woodworking especially carving duck decoys. William loved to garden growing many fruits, vegetables and flowers.
He is survived by his children, William "Bill" (Becky) Schlag Jr. of Chardon, Susan Sorboro of Stow, Laura (John) Barrett of Fayetteville, NC and Janet (Tom) Gutierrez of Hollis, NH; grandchildren, Tony and Chrissy Sorboro and Jackie and Megan Schlag. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith (Hodge) in 2010.
Calling hours being held 4:30-6:30 Thursday, February 28th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home with Kevin O'Brien officiating, with funeral services immediately following at 6:30 PM.
