Kent

To paint a portrait of Bill White is a difficult task as his accomplishments are many. He was the oldest of six, born in Raleigh, North Carolina. He grew up in Pittsburgh and attended Culver Military Academy where he discovered his love of learning. Bill attended Princeton, but left school to join the Navy. He used his knowledge of Spanish to work as a translator. After his honorable discharge, he received a B.A. in English and Journalism from the University of Pittsburg in 1964, before embarking for New York City where he met and married Ayla Ali-Riza (Ayla White) in 1965 and began a career in management consulting. He became an expert in employee compensation and helped businesses across the U.S, and consulted around the world in Nigeria, Micronesia, Puerto Rico, and United Arab Emirates. Perhaps Bill's favorite work was testifying as an expert witness in compensation cases. He consulted for and testified in more than fifty national compensation lawsuits. While working in Chicago, he met his wife , Cheryl Trostrud. They moved to Evanston, Illinois before moving to Winnetka. They wed in 1981, creating a blended family: Suzan and Brent-Kaan White from Bill’s previous marriage, and Amie (Ellis-White) Pierre from Cheryl’s previous marriage. Between consulting jobs, Bill ran marathons, and painted people's portraits. When Bill needed to turn off his analytic process, he took photographs, wrote poetry and short stories, and painted with oils. He became a skillful oil painter, producing hundreds of portraits and landscapes from his studios in Los Angeles and Santa Fe. Although Bill enjoyed conversing, he was just as happy to have a Starbucks, eat ice cream, Banana Cream Pie, snuggle with his 4 Labrador Retrievers and enjoy his favorite TV series with Cheryl. He had an easy bond with his brothers and sisters who shared a family trait of collecting obscure trivia. They loved to laugh and joke around, even in the hardest moments. Bill is survived by siblings George White, Debbie Karvey, Nancy Norris, Candy Holmes and Margi White, as he joins his brother Mark in the great beyond. In 2016, Bill and Cheryl moved to Kent, Ohio to be near family: daughter, Amie Pierre, Janet Walker and Hal Walker. Bill retired from consulting, and took more time to talk and laugh with others. Bill focused on his family and his children. He often spoke about how proud he was of his children, Brent and Suzan, his step-daughter Amie, and his grandchildren, Stella, Lucas and Leo. William L. White lived a full and happy life, and experienced great success in his career as an executive consultant. He worked hard on corporate analyses, but also on his artwork. In the end, it was his family that brought him joy, and love that made him whole. We remember him with admiration, joy and gratitude for the time we had together.
