Aljuwon-Saadiq Jonathan Eiland Sims born on September 29, 1998 in Cleveland, Ohio to Serita J. Eiland (Sims) and the late Alphonzo Sims Jr both of Cleveland, Ohio. Aljuwon was known by loved ones as "Wonnie" and received the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on October 20, 2002 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church of Cleveland, Ohio. His primary education was provided by Cleveland Catholic Diocese afterwards moving to Kent Ohio in the 3rd grade. Aljuwon continued his education at Kent City Schools until the 10th grade and graduated from Streetsboro High School in 2017. Aljuwon has received accolades both academically and athletically as a merit roll student in addition to receiving multiple letters in sports at both Kent Roosevelt and Streetsboro High School. Wonnie was a natural athlete in wrestling, basketball, track and field in addition to excelling in football. Wonnie was passionate about helping others and aspired to become a nurse. He completed one year of the 18-month Nursing Program at Hondros school of Nursing, completed college coursework at Tri-C Eastern campus and Ashland University. Aljuwon was an active member of the Akron Masonic Prince Hall's Samos Chapter of Pythagorans. He held various positions in Samos Chapter of Pythagorans and excelled in oratorical skills by receiving high accolades at the state level oratorical competitions. He continued fellowshipping with his Masonic Brothers and Friends from Cleveland, Ohio. His friends called him "Al", he was well received by his Peers, his Coaches, his Masonic Brothers and by all who knew him as a fun, loyal, kind and respectable young man.
Aljuwon was received by the Ancestors and Transitioned from Earth on June 10, 2023 at 1:01 am in Akron, Ohio. Aljuwon is preceded in death by his Father, Alphonzo Sims, Jr, Grandfather, Rudolph Eiland, Grandmother, Barbara Sims, Great-Aunt Jeanette Abbott Great Grandmother Otha Lee Eiland and Great Grandfather, Leonard Abbott, Jr. Wonnie leaves to cherish his love and memories his Mother, Serita J.Eiland(Sims), his Sisters, Kamaria, Simira and Zakaia Eiland, his Brother, Raaziq Eiland, his Nephew, Za'Kei Eiland, his Sister-in-law, Tiana Bell, and his half Sister, Al'liyah Sims. He also leaves to mourn his death his Grandmothers, Renda Eiland, Beatrice Jackson and Gwendolyn Abbott, Grandfather, Alphonzo Sims, Uncles, Anthony and Reginald Eiland, Michael Abbott, Michael and Anthony Sims. Aunts Roice and Lesia Eiland, Great Aunts, Eloise Zachary, Annie Weaver, Carlean Perez, Mary Sims, Great-Great Aunt Sarah Eiland and Great Uncles, Terry Eiland, Leonard Abbott III, Arthur, Leon and Joseph McCollum. Additional adoptive and biological cousins will cherish his memory in their hearts. Aljuwon's Grandfather, the late Rudolph Eiland, doted on Wonnie and loved him immensely. He supported Wonnie by showing up to all of his games, cultivating his work ethic, and bragged about his grandson to everyone he came in contact with. Wonnie's God-Father, the late Albert Rice, loved him dearly by supporting every event, life challenges, teaching him about cars and life as a young man. Aljuwon will truly be missed by his Adopted Family, Biological Family, Spiritual Family and Friends.
Funeral services will be SUNDAY, June 25, 2023 at 12:30PM at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home, 628 W. Main St. Kent, OH 44240. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11:30AM-12:30PM on SUNDAY at the funeral home.
