Carl D. Hamilton, age 92, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on November 5, 2023 at University Hospital, Portage Medical Center in Ravenna. He was born on June 30, 1931 in Akron, OH and always called Ohio his home. Carl proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954 during the Korean War. He later worked at Ohio Bell Telephone as an apparatus man, outside installer, and ultimately concluded his 38-year career as a central office technician in the Kent office. Throughout his life, Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with friends and family; in particular he loved to camp and fish with his granddaughters. Upon retirement, Carl was a charter captain on Lake Erie and loved taking his sons fishing. He also spent his retirement going on numerous cruises with his wife, Janet. They traveled all over the world from Germany to Australia, and Alaska to Slovakia and beyond. Carl loved to ride his motorcycle with the American Legion Riders and took great pride in serving with the Kent American Legion Honor Guard.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Janet, as well as his son Brent Meyers (Christy) and grandchildren Marissa, Morgan and Adam. He is also survived by his son Greg Meyers (Mariana) and grandson Preston; his son Mark Hamilton (Melinda) and family, daughter Deborah Polos and family, and son Carl David Hamilton and family, along with many nephews and their families.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, brother Roy Hamilton, sister-in-law Donna Hamilton, and brother Richard Hamilton.
In honoring his wishes, Carl will be cremated and a celebration of life will be held at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home 628 W. Main St. Kent, OH 44240 on Friday, December 1, 2023 from 4:00PM-6:00PM.
We want to thank all the wonderful nurses and doctors that took care of Carl and also the Hospice of Western Reserve. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society and the Portage County Animal Protection League.
