James W. Copley, 83, of Kent, passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2022 in the comfort of his home, with his family by his side. He was born in Petroleum Center, PA on January 7, 1939, to the late Thomas and Florence Copley. He was a graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School and attended Akron University. James proudly served in the United States Navy. He was employed at Massey Ferguson for many years and also worked as a car salesman and service department manager. Following retirement, James worked for the City of Kent part time mowing lawns. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. James loved coaching softball, was an avid dog lover and enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and playing pinochle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas Copley and Bob Martin and his sister Judy Sierra.
James leaves his loving wife Carol (Sovinsky) Copley; children, James (Joanne) Copley, Troy Copley, Christopher (Suzanne) Copley, Matthew (Laura) Copley and Jamie (Mark) Schall; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild; sisters, Jean Rollinger and Janet Smith; and sister-in-law Donna Martin.
In honoring his wishes, James will be cremated, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 11:00AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 313 N. Depeyster St. Kent, OH 44240, with the Rev. Fr. Richard Pentello as Celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Standing Rock Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, November 12, 2022, from 10:00AM-11:00AM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church or to the Portage Animal Protective League, 8122 Infirmary Rd. Ravenna, OH 44266.
